Spa Treatments During Pregnancy

Article by Health E Clips.

Although being pregnant is a wonderful time in a woman’s life, pregnancy can be uncomfortable. Most mothers-to-be will experience some form of swollen feet, back pain, and achy joints. Therefore, if you are a mom-to-be and looking for some relaxing time at the spa, here are the treatments you should consider.

Facials – When a woman is pregnant her hormones levels will change, causing acne, clogged pores, and redness. Facials can be a good way to relax your skin, but it is important to note that your skin may be extra sensitive at this time. Make sure you let your therapist know that you are pregnant and the problems you are currently facing with your skin. Avoid harsh treatments that are abrasive to reduce irritation. If you are sensitive to smells, let your therapist know that you will prefer fragrance free products. Look at facials like oxygen facials, deep-cleansing facials and hydrating facials for pregnant skin.

Massage – If you are suffering from joint and muscle pain, and want to enjoy a massage, speak to your ob-gyn before you book a treatment. You could also ask him/her to recommend a spa that specializes in massages for pregnant women. If you are four-plus months pregnant, it is best to avoid massages that lay you on your back. Ask your therapist to avoid using scented lotions or oils as this can cause dizziness in some pregnant women and contractions in others. Look at therapies similar to reflexology therapy, which help to reduce swelling and stress on the feet and hands.
